Join us for a Webinar kōrero discussing life as a Māori outcomes leader with Kuruho Wereta (Ngāti Raukawa ki te tonga, Te Āti Awa, and Ngāti Toa Rangatira) and Jodi Te Ao Marama Apiata (Ngati Hine, Ngati Rahiri, Ngati Kawa).
Jodi Apiata is an academic staff member at Ara, a consultant for Leadership Lab and has worked with a range of organisations to develop their culturally competence and responsiveness. He has a career background in outdoor recreation, youth development, mental health and adventure therapy.
Kuruho Wereta is Recreation Aotearoa's Māori Outcomes Manager and has also worked for the Department of Conservation as a ranger and Auckland Council. Last year Kuruho won the Future Leader's Scholarship from Sport NZ in recognition of his work and has recently become an Accredited Recreation Professional (ARPro). Kuruho brings a spark of creativity and different perspective to every conversation.
In this kōrero we will cover:
• A deeper dive into who the speakers are and how they have got to their present roles
• What motivates Jodi and Kuruho to work with organisations to grow their cultural competence
• How do Kuruho and Jodi navigate their way through embedding Mātauranga Māori and what are some of the challenges and opportunities
• An insight into how tangata tiriti can support Māori outcomes mahi
If you are stepping on to or along your pathway, as an individual or organisation, towards biculturalism and honouring Te Tiriti then this is the webinar for you!

Jodi Apiata is an academic staff member at Ara, a consultant for Leadership Lab and has worked with a range of organisations to develop their culturally competence and responsiveness. He has a career background in outdoor recreation, youth development, mental health and adventure therapy.
Jenny Jordan
Recreation Aotearoa
Jenny has worked in the recreation industry for over twenty years. She’s been a community recreation programme leader, outdoor instructor, tour guide, tertiary educator, board member, commercial, PTE, not-for-profit and local government employee and a private consultant. She also visited every continent, had a baby and obtained her Master of Business Administration (MBA). Phew!
In her role Jenny aims to support the sector to provide great recreation experiences for our communities and individuals wellbeing. She is kaitiaki for the annual Recreation Conference, Kia Rite Hoea programme, managing the Accredited Recreation Professional process, the Tuākana Teina mentorship programme and developing other initiatives to help support the industry.
Jenny is passionate about community, diversity, learning, adventure, recreation and her daughter. She is looking forward to connecting with you and your work in the recreation sphere.
