Te Whai Oranga 2025-2030 recognises the interconnectedness of the natural environment, place, and people — past, present, and future. It uses a voyaging narrative to describe where we have come from and where Recreation Aotearoa is heading.

Bobbi descends from Tainui (Ngāti Koroki-Kahukura, Ngāti Te Wehi), and lives in Kirikiriroa with her whānau, where she’s actively involved in community sport. She advocates for supporting Māori communities to live healthier and active lifestyles.
Bobbi has a passion for IT systems and developing cultural capability. In recent years, her expertise in these areas have been used in both sport and Māori business. In her spare time, Bobbi enjoys netball, touch and Waka Ama.

Sarah Murray
CEO of Recreation Aotearoa
Sarah is our Kaiwhakahaere Matua Chief Executive. Her role is to lead Recreation Aotearoa towards Te Pae Tawhiti / our mission Te Whai Oranga – enhancing wellbeing through recreation. Her focus is to ensure we deliver quality programmes and services that support, empower, and inspire our members and stakeholders, and that Recreation Aotearoa is a strong voice for recreation in New Zealand.
Sarah joined Recreation Aotearoa in March 2023. Prior to this she worked for central and local government in roles that saw her working across parks and open spaces, outdoors, community recreation, sport and play. She has held several sector governance roles. She was a founding trustee of the Shift Foundation, and a Board member of Recreation Aotearoa and WORD Youth Adventures. She is also a long-standing committee member for Revolve, a (mostly) non-competitive cycling club focused on getting more women on bikes.
A keen swimmer, cyclist, kayaker and tramper, in her spare time she loves getting active and connecting with our natural environments.

kaiwhakahaere whaihua māori at Recreation Aotearoa
Kuruho is a proud member of Ngāti Raukawa ki te tonga, Te Āti Awa, and Ngāti Toa Rangatira. His journey includes a decade of service as a Ranger for the Department of Conservation and the Regional Parks team in Auckland Council, which led him to the role of Kaiwhakahaere Whaihua Māori at Recreation Aotearoa.
In his role, Kuruho weaves the threads of interconnectedness that binds all things, guiding his team towards the objectives of the Whai Oranga Strategy. A steadfast advocate for the revitalisation of Māori philosophies, he merges creative approaches with game theory and taonga tākaro, fostering a unique environment for transformational thinking.
Challenging paradigms that disadvantage Māori thinking, Kuruho strives to infuse the wisdom of traditional concepts into modern systems. His work transcends professional boundaries, making significant contributions to systemic change and the promotion of indigenous wisdom in contemporary landscapes.
