Last year, we collaborated with Hawaiki Kura to pilot our first Ngā Niho Taniwha Wānanga in Wairau.

29 people attended the Wānanga. Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, describing the profound impact of immersing themselves in te ao Māori, inspiration to embrace their Māori identity, language, and culture, and aligning recreation activities with the rhythms of nature, leading to a deeper connection with the environment.

"The cultural immersion was incredible. I never fully understood Māori culture until now. It's not just learning; it's feeling the culture. I'm profoundly grateful for this opportunity."

"The transformation I experienced during this program was unexpected and powerful. I've become more confident in my Māori identity and feel a sense of responsibility to share these learnings with others."

"Learning about Maramataka and aligning our activities with nature has changed how I view recreation. It's about living in harmony with the environment, and this wānanga has opened my eyes."
