Hoani Waititi Marae, a cornerstone of the Waitakere/West Auckland Māori community, is ideally suited to host a kaupapa tākaro. Its rich history and alignment with kaupapa whakarauora make it the perfect venue for an event that promotes tākaro Māori.
Established in 1980 after years of fundraising by the Urban Māori community, Hoani Waititi Marae has served as a vital hub for preserving and promoting te ao Māori in an urban setting. The marae complex encompasses the Wharenui Ngā Tumanako, Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Hoani Waititi, one of New Zealand's first Māori-language immersion schools, and a community center. The many kaupapa that have originated from this whare include Te whare Tū Taua, te ao haka - ngā Tūmanako, Rongo mamau, Whare Aitū to name just a few.
This whakapapa made Hoani Waitit the ideal location to host Māui Hīnaga: Te Hui Taonga Tākaro.
