Please note all field trips take place on Friday 15 November. They will leave from the Ramada Manukau, next door to the Events Centre, and will be at the airport no later than 3pm. Buses will return to the Ramada Manukau after the airport for final drop off.

FIELD TRIP 1 – Tūpuna Maunga

This field trip will visit two of the Tūpuna Maunga beginning with Matukutūruru and then to Te Pane o Mataoho / Te Ara Pueru also known as Mangere Mountain. Learn about the history of these ancestral mountains and experience their present-day realities. Including visiting the award winning Whānau Ātea Māra Hupara playground, bookable hāngī pit and kī-o-rahi field.

FIELD TRIP 2 – Facilities

The facilities tour will stop at three sites beginning with a visit to the Vector Wero Whitewater Park, next door to the Events Centre. From there we travel to Ōtara to visit the Ōtara Kai village the home of the Community Builders Trust, a community born initiative that incorporates a multitude of community activities and support. Before dropping off at the airport we will visit the Ōtāhuhu Pool and Leisure Centre which hosts a pool, fitness centre, stadium and library.

FIELD TRIP 3 – Environmental – Making space for water

This trip will focus on the proposed blue-green networks including a visit to Te Auaunga in Mt Roskill.

A blue-green network is a system of waterways (blue) and parks (green) that:

  • give stormwater space to flow
  • help reduce flooding where people live.

With huge investment coming in this space, what are the benefits to parks and recreation outcomes in taking a holistic joint up approach to stormwater management.
