Heoi, kaua e maharahara e hoa mā - don't be alarmed. We will be in contact with participants to ensure they are physically and mentally prepared for this wānanga.


Information to help prepare you for the wānanga


We'll be doing activities that require movement outside, it will involve working with others in a group setting. A medium level of fitness is required as there is walking, and water-based activities involved.

This is a noho marae experience. We encourage all participants to immerse into the wānanga by staying the night on the 23rd - 24th. You'll need to bring a sleeping bag, and earplugs if you are a light sleeper. Please let us know if you intend to stay off sight. 


Items we want you to bring to the wānanga:  


  • Sleeping bag 
  • Walking/running shoes
  • Raincoat 
  • Windbreaker / warm jacket
  • Thermals (polypropylene/ merino etc.) 
  • Swimming clothes (an opportunity may arise) 
  • Warm clothing suitable for water-based activities
  • Day pack
  • Water bottle 
  • Personal equipment (toiletries) 
  • Notebook and pen

Flight bookings - This programme is subject to change, we recommend you book flexi change flights.


This wānanga starts at 11:00am on Wednesday 23 October.


This wānanga officially concludes at 8:00am on Friday 25 October 2024.


Participants travelling from outside of the region can share their travel plans with Kuruho@nzrecreation.org.nz. We'll have a shuttle service that can transfer people between the airport on the days of arrival and departure from wānanga.
